You know how powerful maps are – to communicate, to convince, to plan, to dream. But existing mapping tools make hard work of a good map. General-purpose graphics programs know nothing about mapping and can be an exercise in frustration. And GIS» have a steep learning curve, are expensive, and lack high-quality presentation graphics.
We knew there had to be a better way. We wanted a powerful, easy to use, and affordable solution – and we wanted it made for Mac. With this focus, we set off to develop Ortelius® – powerful map illustration software.
Ortelius® software is named after one of history’s most prominent cartographers, Abraham Ortelius.
Mapdiva makes mapping easier
Mapdiva is dedicated to making intuitive software so you can focus your creative energy on content and design. Founded in 2008 by Graham Cox and Jill Saligoe-Simmel, Mapdiva, LLC develops powerfully easy map illustration software. Our flagship product is Ortelius®, the vector-based mapping software for Mac OS X.
Graham Cox is the lead developer of Ortelius® and our all around Objective-C/Cocoa guru. Graham has developed several graphics-intensive applications, including the open-source GCDrawKit – a complete vector drawing framework.

Jill Saligoe-Simmel, Ph.D. is a professional geographer who leads Mapdiva’s content, education, and business development. She has worked on dozens projects with not-for-profit groups, local, state and federal governments, private sector, and universities to support their mapping objectives.
