Mapdiva is pleased to announce the completely revised Getting Started With Ortelius workbook (6.77MB), including hands-on tutorials and demo files, is now available.

Ortelius is so easy to use that the basics can be mastered in a matter of hours, as opposed to weeks, months, or even years with other software.

In this Getting Started workbook, we’ll step you through a series of easy-to-follow hands-on exercises so you can learn by doing – the best possible way to learn! Exercises are divided up into the following sections:

  • The Basics: Using Ortelius’ Drawing Tools
  • Key Concepts: Organizing Your Workspace
  • Putting It Together: Making Maps & Plans

The hands-on exercise and demonstration files are included with the Ortelius template files. Open an exercise by choosing File > New From Template > Exercises & Demos from the main menu and selecting the exercise. The Ortelius exercises are progressive – start from the beginning and walk straight through. They are also organized so you can skip right to what you need to know.

Exercises are designed for independent study or classroom use, depending on your personal and professional needs.

The current Standard Edition does not import spreadsheet data to be referenced to a map (geocoding). We are looking into this as potential a future enhancement.

Can I import data from a spreadsheet? for example names and address geolocated with zip code?
